Adam Bell: Biography

• It was very clear at an early age that Adam’s life was going to be driven by his prodigious talent as a musician. When Adam was sixteen he moved from his home town of Liverpool to the Chethams School of Music in Manchester and then furthered his education at the Guildhall School of Music in London.
• Adam was a unique individual who had a profound impact upon those he met. He was an independent, self-contained free spirit who had deeply held sensitivities and philosophical ideals. Adam was very opinionated and passionate, he had little time for conventional social living, authority and materialism. A truly honest and deep soul who was determined to go his own way.

• Music gave Adam a fascinating world in which he could absorb himself and communicate his deeply held beliefs and feelings. A place where passions and conflicts could interact and find harmony and resolution.
• Adam’s musical skills were considerable, achieving virtuosa standard on both the piano and the guitar. He studied piano at music school and taught himself to play the guitar at nineteen. More profoundly, he possessed an innate musicianship of a kind very few people have. Pieces of music would literally fall apart in front of him, so that within minutes of hearing them for the first time he could tell you all their key changes, harmonic progressions, instrumentation and features of melodic interest. He would routinely do this to everything he heard, from a Brahms symphony to the theme tune of the Nine O’Clock News.

• Adam’s love of music was born in the classical genre but broadened to encompass a wide range of modern music including jazz and rock. Adam taught both piano and guitar and composed modern music.
• Adam would engage in animated conversations about popular music and the music of the rock group ‘Yes’, which he loved and knew in the kind of detail few people in the world could match.
